In the 1990s heyday of Britpop The Divine Comedy were regulars in the charts, Hannon’s ability to blend insightful lyrics and infectious melodies was at the core of the band’s success.
Songs like National Express, Generation Sex and Something For the Weekend showcased the band’s sense of humour and while Hannon has often pursued his own creative projects, he himself admits “The Divine Comedy is me at my purest.”
